LFO-1
LFO-1 is musical journey began in 1995, when Filipe’s first harnessed the power of primitive samplers and software-based sequencers—trackers like Impulse Tracker, Scream Tracker, and Fast Tracker, mainly used to craft electronic sounds for games and demos. Even as a college student, Filipe’s forward-thinking approach set him apart: performing under the moniker DJ Lip in bars and clubs across northern Portugal, he became one of the earliest DJs to mix and perform live using a computer. His innovative style drew attention, yet he remained committed to the underground ethos—never pursuing mainstream recognition, releasing an official album, or pushing standalone tracks. Instead, he sporadically appeared as Pulsar in private raves, underground venues, and clandestine events throughout Portugal and, after relocating to Canada in 2003, on North American soil.
LFO-1 is the culmination of Filipe’s decades-long exploration into experimental psychedelic soundscapes. Drawing from Techno, Progressive Trance, Psychedelic Trance, Fullon Psytrance, Psycore, Tech Trance, and other more peculiar styles, the project merges meticulously sequenced layers of synthesized textures with improvised patches, each modulated live in real time. Through LFO-1, Filipe Magalhães continues to push the boundaries of electronic music, crafting immersive journeys that echo his earliest experiments while always remaining true to his underground roots.
